Are the Barrie Colts About to Change Hands?

Will the Barrie Colts soon have new ownership?

Sources tell Barrie 360 a deal in principle has been reached to sell the OHL franchise to a group led by Toronto-area businessman John Careri.

Any deal made to sell the club would have to be approved by the OHL’s Board of Governors.

When contacted, Campbell told Barrie 360 he wouldn’t comment on whether a deal for the Colts was in place or if the hockey club was up for sale.

Careri, who runs JONVIC Capital Inc., is also the owner of the OJHL’s Jr. A Toronto Patriots and Everest Academy, a private athletic-academic school in Vaughan.

Last weekend, prominent hockey media personality Jeff Marek said on X (formerly Twitter) that a deal was in place to sell the OHL club to a group led by Careri.

“However, nothing has been brought to the OHL yet, so there hasn't been any diligence on the deal done,” said Marek.

Campbell purchased the OHL team in 2006 from Barrie businessman Jamie Massie. Massie brought the expansion franchise into the junior hockey league in 1995.

The OHL this week approved the sale of the Owen Sound Attack to Ecological Sports Partnerships (EDSP), a group of Toronto-based investors, including hedge fund founder Donald R. McClure and former OHL player and NHL player agent Tyler Nother.

The Colts completed their 2025-26 OHL season on Tuesday night when they fell 4-2 at Sadlon Arena to the Kitchener Rangers, who captured the OHL Championship with a four-game sweep of the best-of-seven series.
