South Simcoe Police responded to a report of a package possibly containing radioactive material Wednesday in Innisfil, but say public safety isn't at risk.

Just after noon, police responded to the report of a suspicious package at the Evelyn Gregory Way plaza on Innisfil Beach Road.

Police say the package was found secure inside a car parked at plaza.

Officers established a perimeter around the area to allow for a thorough assessment of the situation and to properly assist with the material's disposal.

Police say there is no threat to public safety, but their investigation remains ongoing.

Members of the public are being to avoid the area to ensure the safety of the community and first responders.
