Investigators say the dog was seen in several areas on Monday, first tracked to Loggers Run, then later in the area of Patterson Road and Florence Park before sightings of it were reported around Dove Crescent.

Police said there has not been a sighting since Monday afternoon.

The dog attacked the boy as he tried to run away from it, according to police. The child suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital where he remains.

"Officers are working to contact the dog's owner, who will be investigated and charged as appropriate. The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has been notified," police said in a news release on Tuesday.

Police want to hear from anyone who was bitten by the dog.

They advise the public that if the dog is spotted on the loose, to contact them immediately at 705-725-7025, and do not approach or try to contain it.
